John grew up in Carthage, IN where he was the youngest of many brothers and sisters.  In these early years he learned by example how to work hard and do your best at whatever you do, and how to make the most of what you have.

After graduating from Knightstown Jr.-Sr. High School in 1993, he married Angela (Sparks) Jessup.  They have now been married for more than 14 years and have four wonderful and energetic children, ages 12, 10, 8, and 5 who attend Eastern Hancock schools.  Being a husband and father has given John the opportunity to be a provider, a nurturer, a mediator, and a negotiator.

For nearly 10 years, John owned and operated his own construction company, working at every aspect of the business from acquiring work, to hiring and managing employees – training them himself, to the bureaucratic paper work that is required in any industry, to the physical labor of building the structure himself.  He knows the exhaustion of long hours, the ache of physical labor, the disappointment of being let down, and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Through his experiences in business, John gained the qualifications for his present occupation of Jobsite Superintendent for Gilliatte General Contractors where he has worked for the past 4 years.

John Jessup has always had a passion for the foundations of our country and presiding governments.  He has always believed that everyone can and should make a difference for their communities.   It is with much prayer and contemplation that John has decided to run for this office of District 53 State Representative.  He feels that now is the time to offer a candidate that truly represents the constituents of this District.
